Profile:

The Dreamers Network (gh) was formed in 2019 in Accra, Ghana, as a not-for-profit organization by the chairman Mr Isaac Nortey, a retired Vice President of 1199 SEIU (the largest healthcare labor union in the United States.

Ghana’s attainment of independence was an inspirational springboard for the nation’s hopes and dreams. Many of Ghana’s youth (during the independence struggle) saw this pivotal moment as a remarkable opportunity to look ahead and envisaged their contribution in making Ghana the best it can be. But that dream was short lived after the military takeover of the government on February 24, 1966. That event led to the demise of a blooming movement that was flourishing well into Ghana’s bright future. The immense inspiration and determination of the youth in that period can be revitalized, as the youths of today yearn for rethinking to address today’s most pressing societal issues. Here, the formation of The Dreamers Network (gh) can be a partner in ushering in a new found movement for positive, youth-led systemic change.

THE CODE OF DISCIPLINE

The Dreamers Network (gh) code of discipline is designed to help the coming generation to see themselves first as Ghanaians and Africans representing a unique continent with a mission:

  1. LOVE OF COUNTRY

The youth must understand and appreciate that when you love your country you will serve her with all your heart and with all your strength.

  1. DISCIPLINE AND OBEDIENCE

This code to be enforced wherever the youth find themselves;  at homes and at schools. Parents, guardians and teachers unite to achieve this. In school, students respect their teachers and the teachers also return a courteous respect to their pupils, all in an effort to build a personality worthy of emulation by all. Thus the school, the home and the general public all be involved in the moulding of the character of the child who might be a leader tomorrow, because he who will lead must first learn how to follow others. A disciplined people is a disciplined nation, and a disciplined nation is a powerful nation. Without discipline there is anarchy, and accountability is lost.

  1. HONESTY AND MORALITY

These two requirements are the very bricks by which a lasting peaceful society is built. Where one’s honesty and morality become suspect, there is fear, there is mistrust and there is danger and insecurity. The whole society then hangs in imbalance.

As the future leaders of the nation, the youth must be taught to practise honesty and sincerity and to refrain from indecent behavior.

  1. PUNCTUALITY

The youth foremost obligation is to be ready at all events exactly on time, and not at any other time convenient to you.

  1. PROTECTION OF STATE PROPERTY

The youth must be cultured in the traditions that will equip them with the right attitude to protect state properties and legacies acquired at great cost to the taxpayer.

  1. RELIABILITY AND HONESTY

Reliability is an important quality expected of the youth. Without reliability and honesty both individuals and the state could not function as there would be fear and uncertainty in the country. The State depends on the reliability and honesty of its servants to maintain law and order and to maintain adequate national security.

  1. LOVE OF WORK

Every successful nation depends upon its skillful men and women for its survival. No system operates successfully without the working hand of a man or a woman. For Ghana to assert herself among the nations of the world, the nation must first have a breed of generation who are capable and willing to serve her at all times, and with dignity and pride through love of work.

In designing these codes of discipline for the future leaders of Ghana, we were mindful of the universal code of discipline that:-

  • He who teaches must first know,
  • He who will lead must first know how to follow,
  • He who will command must first know how to obey,
  • And he who will rule must first serve.
